Dracula tour is waiting for you

The first city we will visit in our Dracula tour is Targoviste, the former capital of Wallachia during the reign of Vlad the Impaler. Chindia Tower, built for surveillance and defense purposes, is the city landmark left by the legendry ruler.

Curtea de Arges, another former capital of Wallachia and one of the oldest Romanian cities, will be the next stop on our Dracula tour. In this picturesque city we are going to visit the Curtea de Arges Monastery with its beautiful mural painting and the twelve columns representing the Apostles. Inside the monastery there are the tombs of the Romanian kings and queens.

Not far from it, we can admire the Royal Church, part of the Royal Court of Prince Neagoe Basarab, built in the 14th century.

Nearby, there are also the ruins of the Church of San Nicoara where it was supposed to be a remote communication between its bell tower and the donjon of the Poenari Fortress, the real Vlad Dracula’s castle, located 25 km away. Climbing up its 1400 steps will reveal Dracula’s residential quarters, where the Impaler’s wife flung herself out of the window, thus avoiding being captured by the Turks, as the legend says.

The Poenari castle tour will just awaken your desire to search for Vlad the Impaler’s traces in another tour which includes Bran Castle, where the legend of Dracula was born. Taking both tours you’ll have a better understanding of the historical and legendary significance of the famous character. A complete Dracula tourism experience!

  1. Very good value tour that provides an excellent compromise if you are staying in Bucharest for a short period of time but wish to see some of the beautiful Romanian countryside and historical castles for which the country is justly famous. Having said this, very knowledgeable, informative and accommodating tour guide ,within the scope of what was possible in the time frame.
